Weight Update

My weight on any given day is very fluid, meaning the actual number on the scale can be anything from day to day.  It's always a wonder and a surprise (both good and bad) whenever I get on the scale.  Not only do our bodies naturally fluctuate day to day, in my case, since I'm proactively trying to lose weight, the number on that scale has to do with whether I've been staying on calories, whether I exercised or not, and on how much water I've been drinking.

It also depends on how humorous my scale feels like when I step on it.  Case in point:  yesterday (April 15, 2016) I stepped on the scale and it read 166 lbs.  I was so excited because this meant I had lost 140 lbs. total and it was the smallest I had been since my 20s!  HOORAH!  As I ran to get my cell phone to take a photo of the scale's display, I was already writing a blog post in my head about this momentous event - not to mention making a mental list of all the emails I wanted to send about this incredible event.

My particular digital scale displays your weight for approximately 30 seconds after stepping off it so it gives me plenty of time to pick up my cell phone which I place beforehand on the floor, next to the scale, so I can take a photo of the displayed weight after I step off.  I'm not about to step on the scale holding the cell phone because it probably weighs 2 ounces!  Are you kidding?  Every ounce helps.  Now it read 168.4.  How I managed to gain 2.4 lbs. in less than 60 seconds is beyond me.  Needless to say, there was no photo to be taken that day!

I changed the batteries on the scale since I realized they were old and thinking that was the culprit to my having gained weight in less than a minute, stepped on the scale a third time, and now it read 168.8.  Somehow, I managed to gain another  .4 lbs. in the time it takes to change two small batteries.  Dang it!  Of course, I didn't actually "gain" this weight but my scale likes to torment me.  I left it alone while it continued to laugh at me, only to return 10 minutes later before having breakfast to check my weight once again.  This fourth time my weight read 168.8 so I took that to mean it was my actual weight for that day since the reading hadn't changed in a whopping 10 minutes.  This is a prime example of what a jokester my scale is - and always at my expense, too!  I've learned to take it in stride though.  What else can you do but throw the dang thing out the window and cry?  Besides, would a new scale be any different?  Probably not.

In any case, I created a snapshot spreadsheet of my weight during my journey.  I learned a long time ago not to look at my scale numbers day-to-day but rather consider the overall picture and I think this spreadsheet is a good indicator of how I've progressed.  I'll keep updating it as my weight changes, hopefully losing it and not gaining it.

NOTE:  If using a cell phone, choose either Chrome or Internet to view the spreadsheet, otherwise it won't display properly.
