Documentaries

The old me (pre-journey) didn't care about foods or products.  I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and how much I wanted.  Of course, my weight ballooned through the years.  The information out there was confusing to me, particularly when it kept changing as our society matured and more research was conducted.

Nowadays, however, I do my own research, I try to read more about foods and products, and I particularly enjoy watching documentaries about food and the food industry.  The old me would have found these to be a snooze fest, but the new me finds them fascinating.

I recommend the following documentaries that are quite informative (and infuriating) if you're interested in learning about food, the food industry, and in some cases how the food industry has its claws in our government and how that relationship affects our society overall which is keeping us in obesity:

Food Matters (2008):  This documentary discusses how the foods we eat can hurt us or heal us.

Fed Up (2014):  This documentary discusses child obesity, but it contains excellent information that applies to us all.

Fork Over Knives (2011):  This documentary advocates a low-fat, whole food, plant-based diet as a way to avoid or reverse disease such as cancer or heart disease.  There's fascinating research conducted over decades discussed in this documentary.

GMO OMG (2013):  The topic here is Genetically Modified Organisms ("GMO") in the production of food.

Hungry For Change (2012):  This documentary explores sugar and fat in our diet.

Super Size Me (2004):  This one is about a man who takes it upon himself to see what would happen to his body and his health by eating McDonald's every day for every meal for 30 days.  Although most people don't eat fast food every day for every meal, it shows the effects of fast food on the body over time when consumed frequently.
